In special recognition for her lifetime efforts to keep the Mexican culture alive, especially among the youth of San Antonio, the distinguished title of Hidalgo was conferred on Maria Rodriguez de Rothenbach.

The inscription inside reads:

HIDALGO
A Noble man or woman
A person of Noble descent

ONE WHO IS ENNOBLED

The title or style of Hidalgo was conferred
by decree of the Spanish King on the settlers from
the Canary Islands who responded to the Crown's
appeal for people to come to the Province of the
New Philippines (Texas), in 1718.
Today, by the order of the Commissioners of the
County of Bexar, it is conferred on those deemed
worthy of so historic and exalted a title.
"In the name of, and by the authority of the
County of Bexar, I confer on you the noble title of
HIDALGO"

To all whom these presents shall come
Greetings: Know ye that

Senora Maria Rodriguez de Rothenbach

is hereby appointed HIDALGO de San Antonio de Bejar under the laws of the County of Bexar with all rights, privileges and emoluments appertaining to said office.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and caused the seal of the County to be affixed at the city of San Antonio, State of Texas. This the 27th Day of August AD 2004.
